The Chicago Antiques + Art + Design Show at the Chicago Merchandise Mart opens to the public this Friday, May 19, 2017

I’m thrilled the revived Chicago Antiques + Art + Design Show will return to the Chicago Merchandise Mart, after an absence of four years. It opens to the public this Friday, May 19th, at 11 AM, and continues until Sunday at 5 PM, with a preview party on Thursday night.

I thought an antique show would never return to the Mart after the show closed in May, 2013. The Palm Beach Show Group forced the closing of the show by making dealers decide between exhibiting at the Mart or the Navy Pier. Dealers chose the Navy Pier, which hosted one show and then failed. I hoped the Merchandise Mart show would be revived the following year, but it didn’t happen until this year. Click here for the details from my blog post of January 6, 2014.

The new edition of the show will have a new promoter, Dolphin Promotions, headed by Rosemary Krieger. If the show goes well, it will become a permanent fixture, a result I’m hoping for.

As usual, we’ve brought a fabulous inventory of French and American glass and lamps. I know you’ll enjoy the show and my display in particular. This fabulous show is one you should attend, no matter the distance. Please stop into my booth and say hello.

A new Miami Airport Show will take the place of the canceled show

Last week U.S. Antique Shows emailed two show announcements. The first one canceled the March 2016 NYC Pier Show. The second canceled the January 2016 Miami Airport Show. I wasn’t too concerned about the March Pier Show because it was fading fast, but I certainly was concerned about the January Miami Airport Show. Last year was fabulous for me, so the cancellation put a big hole in my schedule (and budget).

Rosemary’s company, Dolphin Promotions, the former owners of the Miami Airport Show, were creating a new show, the Miami Antiques + Art + Design Show, to take the place of the canceled show. Whoop de doo! The stipulation was they needed at least 100 dealers to sign up or there wouldn’t be a show. Initial interest has been very good, so Rosemary sent me an email confirming that the show will go on. Yahoo! winnetka-10-2015Our next show will be at the Winnetka Community House in Winnetka, IL, November 6-8, 2015. We used to exhibit at shows in the greater Chicago area 4-6 times yearly. Most of them have disappeared, so we now only exhibit in Chicago twice a year, once in the fall in Winnetka and once in the spring in Glencoe at the Chicago Botanic Gardens. Too bad, because we like Chicago and have lots of friends and clients. We’re really looking forward to seeing you at the show, so please put the dates in your calendar.
